SERVICES

Questions are received and filtered by a librarian. Valid/legitimate questions are answered or if not directly related to the library are forwarded to other departments where the concerns are directed.

 

A Librarian will response  to acceptable questions within two working days.

For incorrect emails addresses, no response will be received by the sender.

 

The following queries are not entertained:

  1. Non-library related questions,

  2. Topic outside of library domain

  3. Commercial inquiries

  4. Detailed bibliographies,

  5. Answers for contest, puzzles, or games’

  6. Homework questions that are too specific.

Informs library users about new acquisitions in the library through the library website.

Interlibrary Loan is  the process of sharing resources among libraries. If the library does not have the book, journal or other materials you need, the library may be able to obtain them from another library that is also a member of the resource-sharing.

On-line request form

 

Only the following are eligible to use this service:

  1. UDM administrators

  2. UDM Faculty members

  3. MERLION students who are currently enrolled

 

Guidelines:

  1. Readers ask and submit request using the Interlibrary Loan Form at the Circulation Section.

  2. The Library reserves the right to limit the number of items requested or borrowed by a single user at one time.

  3. All requested items must be picked up at the returned to the Circulation and Information Section.

  4. Users must submit his/her validated school ID in exchange of the requested item.

  5. Borrow must honor restriction that all requested materials are in-library use only.

  6. When requested items are available for pick up, the borrower will be notified thru text or by phone.

  7. Interlibrary loan service may be suspended to a borrower who fails to pick up, keep materials overdue, or damage requested interlibrary loan materials.

  8. Borrowers is responsible for any charges levied by the library for any lost or damaged materials. No refund will be made for lost and paid materials that are recovered. 

Tours are available for individuals and groups upon request 

This includes library orientation and electronic resources tutorial to teach library research skills and promote information literacy.

 

  1. Freshmen Library Orientation - this session includes: 1) overview of the Library policies, procedures, services and facilities. 2)introduction to the use of online resources.

  2. Electronic Resources Tutorial - the tutorial includes: 1) lecture on the different online resources that match possible research needs.

 

Faculty members and other members of the Merlion community can avail of the orientation and tutorial on schedule basis, Interested parties may inquire from the librarians at the General Reference and Information Section at (contact no.) for more details.

Referral letter is issued to those who need to acquire materials from other libraries in case such materials are not available in the UDM Library. Inquire at the Technical Section and Information Section for proper scheduling. Referral letter is only issued if their information needs are not existing in our holdings.

To secure a REFERRAL LETTER, one must fill out the following information needed:

 

  1. Name of student

  2. College

  3. Topic of research

  4. Library you want to visit

 

NOTE:

 

  1. The library doesn’t issue referral letter during semestral and summer break.

  2. Referral Letters are released a day after the request was made.

  3. Referral letter should be claimed by one of the members who requested for a referral.

  4. A maximum of 5 researchers per library/institution are allowed per day, however, the number of researchers to be accommodated is subject to the discretion of the library/institution concerned.

Accepting Outside Researchers

  1. The University Learning Library accepts outside researchers and students of other schools and universities who wish to utilize the library collection subject to some rules.

  2. If a visitor is an outside researcher, he/she needs to present any valid government issued Identification Card, state the purpose of visit, and what institution he/she is affiliated. He/she then fills up the visitor log sheet. All materials are for Room Use Only.

  3. If a visitor is a student from another school or university, he/she needs to present his official school ID and the referral letter duly signed by the head librarian of his/her school. The date of visit shall be specified. Only student visitors indicated in the referral letter shall be allowed to use the library materials.

Note: Chief Librarian (CL) and Reader’s Service/ Department Librarian reserves the right to refuse admission of outside researchers during the following occasions:

(1) examination days;

(2) high volume of users in the Library;

(3) no referral letter presented;

(4) insufficient identification documents to establish identity of visitor; and other possible considerations deemed by Chief Librarian (CL) and Reader’s Service/ Department Librarian that may arise.

AREAS

To maintain its role as a public provider of information, Internet stations are available at the 2nd floor of the library. The following rules apply to all Internet terminal users:

 

  • Researchers are required to submit their validated UDM ID or library permit.

  • Internet terminal may be used for emails, data searches and retrieval for academic and research purposes only.

  • Computer use is limited to one (1) hour per session, per person. Another one-hour session is allowed to the same user but not on consecutive time.

  • Accessing sites, which are not research-related, is strictly prohibited including chatting, games, &  entertainment.

  • Copyrighted information may not be used or sold unless the right to do so has been purchased from the owner of the data.

  • Computer are shut down 30 minutes before the library closes.

  • Internet users who violate these rules will be subjected to disciplinary action.

Periodical

It provides current awareness through daily newspapers, newspaper clippings and displayed magazines on various topics pertaining current issues in general public. It is a place where needed information could be found in magazines, journals, newspapers and other serial materials.offers different government publications which were donated from different government agencies.

Circulation Section

Borrowing and returning of books, issuance and endorsement of library cards; payment of overdue fines; signing of clearances are accomplishment in this section.

This consists of collection of books on culture, literature, history, etc. authored by Filipino. Undergraduate and Graduate thesis are house in this section.
